Tour Overview

Discover lesser-known areas of Sri Lanka’s central highlands. After exploring Kandy’s temples and botanical gardens, take the scenic train to Haputale and venture to Madulsima (Passara), a peaceful area surrounded by tea estates and local villages. This region sees fewer tourists, giving you a more authentic glimpse of upcountry life.

Trek to Uda Diyaluma waterfall, where you can swim in natural pools at the top, before continuing to Ella and Yala National Park. This itinerary offers an authentic look at rural Sri Lanka beyond the typical tourist trail, with plenty of time for hiking and interacting with tea estate workers.

Day 01 – Arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport → Kandy

Arrival at Katunayake Airport.
Drive to Kandy (~3–3.5 hours).
Check-in at hotel.
Evening visit: Temple of the Tooth Relic. Optional Kandyan cultural show.
Overnight: Kandy

Day 02 – Kandy Sightseeing

Breakfast at hotel.
Visit Royal Botanical Gardens, Peradeniya.
Optional walk around Kandy Lake and city markets.
Prepare for scenic train the next day.

Day 03 – Kandy → Haputale (Scenic Train Ride)

Early breakfast at hotel.
Board Kandy → Haputale train (~6–7 hours), passing misty mountains, waterfalls, and tea plantations.
Arrive in Haputale, check-in at hotel.
Evening: relax at hotel or visit Lipton’s Seat viewpoint.
Overnight: Haputale

Day 04 – Day Trip to Madulsima (Passara) from Haputale

Breakfast at hotel.
Drive to Madulsima (~1.5–2 hours one-way).
Explore:
- Tea estates and local villages
- Scenic viewpoints and small waterfalls
Return to Haputale in the evening.
Dinner at hotel.
Overnight: Haputale

Day 05 – Day Trip to Uda Diyaluma Waterfall → Haputale → Ella

Early breakfast.
Drive to Uda Diyaluma Waterfall (~1 hour).
- Short hike to viewpoint (1–1.5 hours)
- Enjoy panoramic views of the waterfall and surrounding mountains
Return to Haputale for lunch.
Drive to Ella (~1–1.5 hours).
Check-in at hotel. Evening visit: Nine Arches Bridge or relax in Ella town.

Day 06 – Ella Leisure / Sightseeing

Breakfast at hotel.
Optional: hike Little Adam’s Peak or Ella Rock.

Day 07 – Ella → Yala National Park

Drive to Yala (~4–5 hours).

Day 08 – Yala → Mirissa (South Coast Beach)

Optional early morning safari.
Breakfast at lodge.
Drive to Mirissa (~4–5 hours).
Check-in at beachfront hotel.
Evening: relax on Mirissa Beach, optional sunset cruise or whale watching (seasonal).

Day 09 – Mirissa Leisure / Optional Galle Visit

Full day leisure at beach.
Optional: visit Galle Fort (~1 hour drive).

Day 10 – Mirissa → Colombo → Bandaranaike International Airport

Drive to Colombo (~3–3.5 hours).
